Michael Manns, MD is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology at the Medical School Hannover in Germany. He has developed and applied, with his team, various forms of therapies which have become the standard of care worldwide. A renowned expert in the fields of internal medicine, gastroenterology and hepatology, Dr. Manns has received numerous awards for his scientific achievements and is a member of many scientific societies related to his field. In April 2007, Dr. Manns was honored by the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) with its Recognition Award, the highest achievement in this specialty. He was also named chairman of a major collaborative research project, SFB 738 “Optimizing conventional and innovative transplants,” which is supported by the German Scientific Association (DFG). In 2006, he was president of the German Association for Gastroenterology (DGVS).
Dr. Manns attended medical school at the University of Vienna and Johannes-Gutenberg-University in Germany. He is co-author of Zakim & Boyer‘s Textbook of Hepatology, 6th Edition, one of the leading international textbooks for liver diseases.
